Nova Therme Köflach

One of our favourite things to do in the Austrian winter time as a family, is to visit a thermal spa. The one that we find to be the best suited for our family is the Nova Therme in Köflach. On Sunday we drove the 35 km from Graz to the town of Köflach, through some beautiful countryside, to spend the day swimming in the warm thermal waters.
At Nova you will find indoor and outdoor pools and the water temperature is around 36 degrees. The thermal spa is open throughout the year, but we find the winter time the best time to visit. Nova is set out on different levels and has a variety of pools, from shallow children's pools to the biggest pool which goes from the inside to the outside area. The children always have a wonderful time, because there is so much for them to see and do.
In February 2015, we stayed in the hotel at Nova Therme for a long weekend. Amelia was only four months old at the time and Penny was two, and believe it or not we had the most relaxing weekend. The hotel and thermal spa is all wheelchair, and therefore pram, friendly. This helped make life with two small children that much easier. At the hotel we stayed in a family room, comprising of two separate bedrooms. The bathroom had a bath (a necessity with small children) and the room was big enough to fit in all the crazy equipment that is needed for two small children away from home. The wonderful thing about our stay was that we as parents didn't feel like we got the short end of the deal. With a spa available for massages & other treatments, the separate adults only sauna available (albeit a nudie sauna - that's a story for another day) and really good food and wine, we parents were also occupied and happy. Our trip was also perfectly timed as there was snow, making the thermal spa experience that much more special and magical. Just look at these photos!
Whether you're interested in a weekend away or even just for a day trip, Nova in Köflach is a great place to spend some quality time with your loved ones.
